Now with Mac Core Audio you should not have any major problems connecting the mixer to OSX 10.9.4 because you are using an Apple driver and there have not been many changes made to Mac Core Audio with the Mavericks OS update. Now with your version of the Onyx 1640i does not require a driver an uses Apples driver called Mac Core Audio.
The older Onyx-i mixers that do not require a driver for Mac have an Oxford FireWire chipset and the reason why we had to switch to the Dice chipset is because they stopped production of the Oxford FireWire chipsets. The reason why one mixer requires a driver where the other does not is because the newer Onyx-i mixers have a new FireWire chipset call Dice. I sent an e-mail to Mackie support and here is what they respond:īoth versions of the Onyx-i mixers are not officially supported on OSX 10.9.x. The mac is from mid-2012 running mavericks.
